I've found that drawing comparisons to other religions that they believe are wrong (Mormon) but you know follow a lot of the same tennants, then joking, "imagine if JW's did that" can get the mind rolling.

using humour with cult members
by besty infolks i needs some input on this subject.. i have 3 family members who are shunning me due to their jw belief system and i would like to prime some non-jw relatives on the use of humour to reach out to them.. its not right imho to poke personal fun or be sarcastic or unkind about their belief system so what do we do?.
any suggestions on how humour can be used in this way?.

I'm also guessing blood. The fact that it is now OK to let the courts order blood and not fight it shows that the WTS is pretty much abandoning it. Someone can tell me if I am wrong but there hasn't been a big anti-blood article that I can remember in awhile.

Dispelling Myths: 1914 Expectations
by AuldSoul injehovah's witnesses currently teach that prior to 1914 no one could have predicted what happened in europe in 1914. they teach that the world was heading toward such idyllic stability that the events of 1914 caught everyone off-guard.
so surprised were the people of the time that they looked back with fondness at the calm preceding 1914 as a time that could never be gone back to.. what were the bible students teaching about 1914 prior to that year?
in what capacity did they claim to be teaching?.

In Penton's book he does a good job explaining how it wasn't till between 1918 and 1925 that 1914 even made a resurgence.

"Congregation Bible Study" - Name Change probably money motivated
by Meeting Junkie No More inok, just to beat this topic to death, i think the real reason for the book study amalgamation is actually the name change to congregation bible study.. there's got to be a gazillion catholic, protestant, presbyterian, anglican, methodist, united etc.
churches that have alpha courses and bible study nights.
and some light bulb has gone off in brooklyn so that the so-called governing body has finally caught on that they are the only religion without an actual 'bible' study meeting.

Yea unless I am missing something you can't just say, "bible study" and get a hand out from the government. I know some cognitive dissonance is kicking in for some on this issue, but it could just be the Governing Body was actually thinking of people on this decision.

Richard Dawkins Gets "Expelled" by Ben Stein!
by Perry ini just got back from seeing the new movie release "expelled" which is a documentary exposing the militant culture of supression regarding intelligent design in the scientific community.
in a "million years", i never would have imagined that ben stein could get the author of "the god delusion", richard dawkins to speak favorably about i.d.
(intellignet design).

How about us evolutionist and creationist make a deal...in 2 million years if society does not advance then your right. If however we do evolve then evolutionist are right. In order to prove a theory you need the time to prove it. Creationist will not give the time for the theory to be proven.

New announcement from the 1st time zone in the world.
by karter injust got back from the assembly the bookstudy will be part of the ministry school service metting as of 2009. the cost of fuel is 1 reason.
to many elders taking bookstudys time could be better spent on other things.
family heads can now spend more time with there familys.

This just more evidence that the JW's are slowly and probably in a kicking and screaming way becoming more main stream. As the older more fundamentalist GB members die off and younger men take office it's just going to be a natural change over in to a more liberal type atmosphere. Does this mean that it is going to be a complete and free religion? No, but it is going more main stream. The next major change I see happening is the blood issue.

i was wondering how many confirmations we have about this.
